Large tree moving in Toronto

21 Sep

Our definition of a large tree move is a tree beyond Mechanical or truck relocating size. The other big issue are trees planted where no machine is capable of retrieving due to ground conditions or obstructions, concrete curbs, slopes and tight quarters. Larger trees 50′ to 70′ in height with caliper trunk growth beyond 24″ caliper are much more limited to on site moves which allow additional building space and sit access.

When deciding if moving a tree is economically viable it is important to look at your, property, especially Residential, is it an essential component to your home. Does it add to curb appeal and would you like or buy your home minus the tree. First impressions matter, a good landscape is like the right picture frame, it can make or break the picture. When buying something for ourselves which we enjoy its usually leaning to a more emotional decision than a business rational decision. Lately many customers of ours are experiencing tree losses beyond their control eg: Emerald Ash Bore which can turn a comfortable neighbourhood into a No Mans Land. When we talk to our clients in Goderich Ontario who experienced total town devastation in 30 seconds, they realize that trees are part of our fabric and there really is no alternative to growing a healthy tree year round.

Toronto has between 17% to 29% Green and White Ash Tree coverage on our Streets, Parks, Public Places and around our Homes. Can you image 1 in every 5 Trees in Toronto not being there in 3 to 5 years. That’s what we face; investigate what’s available and what would make your home more inviting and calm.

To do or not to do, that is the question

When is it worth moving a tree? There are several factors worth considering as part of the process.

Why do you want to move the tree? Was it a commemorative tree by a family member that has emotional attachment? Is it a rare tree, or the perfect Specimen? Are the soil conditions agreeable to a move? Does the plant cultivar in question have many moving issues? Spring or Fall dig, shallow or deep root tendencies?

My method of assessment regarding the decision to move is based on the 10 point scale, this involves all of the above with 8 being the number reached to really consider being worthy for a professional point of view.

Trees in locations where they are equipment inaccessible are what we specialize in. We hand dig the tree which allows us a first hand view of the quality of a dig based on root patterns, soil conditions & moisture. All of these points are issues and we can abort the digging and lifting with minimal cost to the customer. No two digs are ever the same and over the years we’ve had many interesting situations. This is what makes our business interesting and a joy in most cases. Digging during the winter, or cold wet Spring or Fall conditions are why you truly have to love what you do.
